Remembering Los San Patricos

During the U.S. war of conquest against Mexico in 1846-48, a group of mostly Irishmen left the U.S. Army to fight on the side of Mexico. They were called Los San Patricios, St. Patrick's Battalion, many were eventually captured and 50 were hanged by the U.S. in 1847. Their bravery is commemorated each September in both Mexico and Ireland by a special day of remembrance.


* The video "San Patricios": historical account of the events. * Chris Matthews: author of the play "A Flag to Fly" about Los San Patricios, will discuss the history, including some songs and excerpts from his writings. * The O'Daveys Irish music duo: fiddler-guitarist David Borough and mandolinist-guitarist-vocalist David Winters will perform Irish dance music, rebel songs, and songs from the struggles of Irish immigrants.
